Akbar, Syed Hyder

Come Back to Afghanistan

Hardback first US edition, account of young Afghan teenager who resides in California and returns to Afghanistan where his father becomes Karzai’s spokesman followed by the governorship of Kunar province bordering Pakistan. In Kunar the young teenager brings an Afghan suspected of being a insurgent by the US forces to a US base. The suspected insurgent dies in US custody a few days later. Rather surprisingly the teenager and his father the governor of the province where the death occurs suspect no wrong doing until the CIA investigates. This book offers a riveting account of the relationship of the Afghan border tribes to the Afghan state as well as the elections in Afghanistan which resulted in victory for President Karzai. Slight damage to hardback cover and dw. First US edition.
